Hibiscus Marshmallow Iced Tea

Marshmallow root contains polysaccharides (similar to the inner gel of aloe leaf) that are very moistening to the inner ecosystem of the body. This mucus like property brings hydration to dry irritated lungs, dry skin, dry eyes and dry mucous membranes. Like a desert longing for water, marshmallow soothes and helps the system maintain balance. Hibiscus is a tropical plant that is actually in the same plant family as marshmallow. Hibiscus has a tart fruit flavor and is rich in antioxidants to help cool off an over heated system.

The two combined make a beautifully cooling and moistening pair — perfect to balance the hot and dry environment we are living within. I make a quart each day, stick it in the fridge and have it throughout my day. Your body will appreciate the support.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon hibiscus flower — available at Rebecca’s, Natural Grocers or Azure Standard. 

2 tablespoons marshmallow root (cut and sift) - available at Rebecca’s or Azure Standard.

Instructions:

In the 32 oz mason jar, add the herbs and cover with room temp or cold filtered or spring water. Put a lid on and place in the fridge overnight or for at least 6 hours. Strain and enjoy throughout the day to cool and moisten your system.
